Currently a Member of the Polish Parliament (Civic Platform “PO” Political Party) and Deputy Chairman of the EU Scrutiny Committee, analyst and university lecturer.
He held the position of Secretary of State for European Affairs and the Representative of the Prime Minister at the EU Council in the Cabinet of PM Ewa Kopacz. In practice this meant that he was responsible for the EU Policy of the Government and negotiated on the behalf of the PM in areas such as EU sanctions towards Russia and energy security. He was also responsible for coordinating the efforts of all Ministries engaged at the EU level.
In the Cabinet of PM Donal Tusk he held the position of the Minister of Administration and Digitization (2013-2014). He worked in the area of digitization with issues regarding the protection of personal data on the Internet, cybersecurity and the availability of materials for handicapped persons. In the area of administration he was primarily responsible for overseeing Voivodes and helping those affected by floods and violent meteorological phenomena.
In the European Parliament (2009-2013) he elected MEP and became a member of the European Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO). One of his most important tasks was negotiating the 2014-2020 EU budget, from which 400 bln PLN is assigned to Poland. He also worked in the Committee for Internal Market and Consumer Protection on digital issues, e-commerce, consumers’ rights as well as new, well-though-out public procurement laws.
