As of April 8, 2025, following approval from the Minister of Science and Higher Education and a formal decision by its founder, Collegium Civitas officially becomes Civitas University. This important milestone marks another step in the institution’s growth, further strengthening its position and creating new opportunities for students, faculty, and the entire academic community.
The change in status is a natural continuation of the university’s development, which began in 1997 with its founding by scholars from the Polish Academy of Sciences. Key turning points in this journey include joining the Merito Group in September 2024 and becoming a member of the WSB–DSW Merito Scientific Federation in January 2025.
From the outset, the university has been committed to combining academic excellence with practical education, preparing future leaders in business, politics, media, and civil society. University status, along with membership in the academic federation, opens the door to new research and educational initiatives in an increasingly international environment.
What does university status mean?
Academic authority
Through its membership in the WSB–DSW Merito Scientific Federation, Civitas University holds the right to confer doctoral and post-doctoral degrees in ten academic disciplines, including economics and finance, sociology, media and communication studies, management, security studies, pedagogy, and political science.
International research and collaboration
Participation in the scientific federation enhances research potential and fosters collaboration between partner institutions. It enables the development of international and interdisciplinary research projects, drawing on the collective expertise and academic resources of the federation members.
Expanded educational offer
University status allows Civitas to broaden its academic portfolio, offering programs better aligned with evolving labor market needs and the expectations of a globalized world.
University diploma advantage
Graduating with a university diploma can be an additional asset in the eyes of future employers, signaling the quality and academic recognition associated with a fully accredited university.
A new name. The same core values.
While the university’s status and name have evolved, its mission remains unchanged. Civitas University remains committed to a foundation of high-quality education, innovation, and a practical approach to learning.
As our Rector Prof. Stanisław Mocek emphasizes:
University status brings many new opportunities for development, but it does not change the core values on which our institution was founded—high-quality education, openness to new ideas, and a practical approach to teaching. Civitas University, just like Collegium Civitas before it, remains committed to student growth, supports the development of real-world competencies, and fosters a community where knowledge meets passion, and learning translates into practical skills.
The name may be new, but the university’s dedication to shaping future leaders and cultivating a vibrant academic community remains unchanged.
