Collegium Civitas, Polish partner of the project Dialogue About Radicalisation and Equality (DARE)

Collegium Civitas has become a partner of the project DARE (Dialogue About Radicalisation and Equality) funded by the Horizon 2020 programme. Project activities at Collegium Civitas will be coordinated by Dr Łukasz Jurczyszyn.
The purpose of the DARE project is to explore why young people submit to radicalisation, how this phenomenon evolves, and the possibilities for effective prevention. The project combines research activities and policy analysis in a three-step process:
1) a critical review of the current knowledge, policies and interventions about radicalisation and anti-radicalisation;
2) new empirical research about young people’s links and responses to communications and agents of radicalisation;
3) the integration of research results in order to develop, pilot and evaluate two sets of educational tools as well as tools to evaluate deradicalisation programmes in order to increase the effectiveness of anti-radicalisation the intervention.
By focusing on Islamic and anti-Islamic radicalisation DARE refers both to aspects of “religious fundamentalism”, and “crimes of violence and hatred” and examines what interactions occur in the processes of radicalisation. The subjects of the study are young people, a group vulnerable to radicalisation.
DARE will focus on analysing the social roots and the long-term effects of radicalisation. It also aims to involve young people in tackling this phenomenon. DARE is a consortium bringing together academic and civic organisations from 9 EU countries and 4 that are outside the EU. Coordination of the project has been entrusted to the University of Manchester.
