Dr. Katarzyna Maniszewska , Vice-Rector for International Relations at Collegium Civitas, has published an article titled “Globalization of Security Threats: A Vicious Circle” in the open-access journal Social Inclusion, part of Cogitatio Press.
The article explores the interdependence of global security threats, such as terrorism, violent conflicts, ecological challenges, and political and economic instability. Using statistical data from sources like the Global Terrorism Index and the World Bank, Dr. Maniszewska highlights how these interconnected threats disproportionately affect the most vulnerable populations, especially in the Global South.
One of the focal points of the research is the Sahel region, with a detailed case study on Burkina Faso, currently assessed as the country most impacted by terrorism worldwide. The findings demonstrate that systemic, coordinated efforts at local, national, and international levels are essential for effectively addressing these compounded threats and mitigating their societal impact.
The article is available in open access on the journal’s website.
