Head of the Management Department at Collegium Civitas, Professor Małgorzata Baran, a professor of economics that is specializing in management studies co-authored a paper “Work engagement and employee satisfaction in the practice of sustainable human resource management – based on the study of Polish employees”.
Sustainable human resource management sees employees as an essential resource for organizations while paying attention to their preferences, needs, and perspectives. The paper focuses on identifying the dependencies between the factors influencing employee satisfaction, such as well-being in the workplace, employee development, employee retention, work engagement, and employee satisfaction in the context of balanced human resources management in the organization.
A quantitative study was conducted on a sample of over a thousand employees in various companies in Poland, contributing to the development of research on work engagement and job satisfaction in the practice of balanced HRM.
The results show that a higher level of employee well-being in the workplace, employee development, and employee retention were associated with a higher level of employee engagement, which in turn led to a higher level of employee satisfaction.
By examining the impact of factors at the individual level on job satisfaction, the paper explains what factors in the workplace should be provided to increase employee satisfaction and engagement. An additional aspect of the paper is a set of practical implications for managers implementing balanced human resource management in the organization.
