Władysław Bartoszewski died six months ago aged 93. He accompanied the Poles across two centuries: he had a happy childhood [studying] in Warsaw’s pre-war schools; underwent a traumatic experience in Auschwitz, the Nazi German concentration camp; served the underground in both the Council for Aid to Jews and the Home Army; participated in the Warsaw Uprising; spent years in communist prisons; participated in opposition activity during the Polish People’s Republic; was an ambassador after the fall of Communism; was Minister for Foreign Affairs twice; was a senator and secretary of state in the Prime Minister’s Office; and was himself continuously leading the way. During the last years of Władysław Bartoszewski’s life, film-makers Witold Bereś and Artur Więcek accompanied him on the road. The result of this journey is a unique film in which Władysław Bartoszewski talks about himself while his former close associates and friends talk about him.
