Event Date: 2025-05-07

The Institute for Management Research at Civitas University invites researchers, lecturers, and students to an open guest lecture by Professor David Collins (Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom) entitled:

“A cure for death by drowning? Bullshit, storytelling and the aftermath of the excellence project”
📅 May 7, 2025 (Wednesday)
🕒 3:00–4:30 PM
📍 Aula C, Civitas University (+ online; a link will be provided closer to the event date)

In his lecture, Professor Collins — a critical management studies scholar and author of several publications on the “excellence project” — will offer an innovative interpretation of the In Search of Excellence phenomenon, which has shaped management thinking for over four decades. Drawing on bullshit theory and narrative analysis, he will expose the limitations of both the project’s assumptions and its academic criticism.

The lecture will serve as an introduction to a discussion on dominant “excellence” patterns in management and the aesthetic and moral dimensions of organizational practices.
Joining the discussion will be Professor Monika Kostera (University of Warsaw and Södertörn University, Sweden), Professor Jerzy Kociatkiewicz (Institut Mines-Télécom Business School, Palaiseau, France), and Professor Michał Szostak (Civitas University).

The event will be held entirely in English.

We warmly invite you to attend!
