On November 9, 2024, Prof. Stanisław Mocek, Rector of Collegium Civitas, participated in the prestigious LUMEN 2024 conference. Speaking during the panel discussion “Best Practices in the Digital Transformation of Science, Teaching, and Administration,” Prof. Mocek presented Collegium Civitas’ experiences in digitalization and his vision for the future of education.

The panel, which featured Rector Stanisław Mocek as a speaker, focused on case studies from Poland’s higher education sector. Experts from various universities shared concrete examples of implementing modern technologies in teaching, administration, and research.

Prof. Mocek discussed the unique challenges and opportunities of managing and digitalizing private universities. He highlighted Collegium Civitas’ key initiatives, such as personalized digital education and the use of advanced digital tools to optimize administrative processes.

The Polish system of science and higher education is overregulated, yet it has not prevented spectacular irregularities in the sector. On the other hand, regulations struggle to keep pace with the rapid development of technological innovations. The prospect of an avatar conducting classes is no longer a futuristic fantasy—it’s only a matter of time before it becomes reality. While regulations don’t prohibit this, the existing legal framework and quality control mechanisms for teaching may face significant challenges. This is just one of many issues in the digital era,” emphasized Prof. Mocek.

During his speech, Prof. Mocek stressed that the success of digital transformation depends on integrating technology with the needs of both students and staff. He underlined the importance of flexibility, innovation, and openness in shaping the education of the future.

The discussion also included contributions from:

  • Prof. Piotr Jedynak, Rector of Jagiellonian University,
  • Dr. hab. Jarosław Protasiewicz, Director of the National Information Processing Institute – Research Institute,
  • Prof. Katarzyna Szczepańska-Woszczyna, Vice-Rector for Research and Education at WSB Academy,
  • Prof. Janusz Uriasz, Chair of the Polish Accreditation Committee.

The 10th anniversary edition of the LUMEN conference offered a unique opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss the challenges of digital transformation in higher education. The event brought together representatives from 81 Polish universities, including 60 public and 21 private institutions. Participants included representatives from the Ministry of Education and Science, the National Centre for Research and Development, the Polish Rectors Foundation, and companies providing innovative IT solutions to the academic sector.

Prof. Mocek’s contributions showcased Collegium Civitas’ commitment to staying at the forefront of educational innovation while addressing the challenges of the digital age.
