
On May 23, Civitas University had the honor of hosting Mrs. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya for a special lecture on “Belarus and European Security”. The lecture by Mrs. Tsikhanouskaya, a courageous leader of the Belarusian democratic movement, offered an opportunity to reflect on the future of Belarus, regional security, and the values that shape democratic societies in Europe.
Mrs. Tsikhanouskaya was accompanied by Dr. Aleksandr Milinkievič, Chancellor of the Free Belarusian University, and Dr. Aliaksandr Lahvinets, a political scientist, lecturer, publicist, and prominent civic and political activist, visiting scholar at Civitas University.
The event was opened by Prof. Stanisław Mocek, Rector of Civitas University, who welcomed the guests and participants. “We are honored to host Mrs. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, a brave leader of the Belarusian democratic movement. Her presence here today gives us a unique opportunity to reflect on the future of Belarus and its place in Europe.” Prof. Mocek said. “At Civitas University, we believe in open dialogue, freedom, and international cooperation. Today’s discussion is a valuable part of that mission,” he emphasized.
In her lecture, Mrs. Tsikhanouskaya addressed the current political situation in Belarus and Ukraine, highlighting the importance of European solidarity and democratic values. She emphasized her commitment to non-violent change as a path toward building a free and democratic Belarus.
The event gathered representatives of ministries, non-governmental organizations, students, faculty members, and friends of Civitas University. The lecture was followed by a Q&A session, co-moderated by Dr. Katarzyna Maniszewska, Civitas University Vice-Rector for International Relations, and Dr. Aliaksandr Lahvinets.
