It is with deep sadness that we have received the news of the passing of Professor Łukasz Turski, long-time lecturer at Collegium Civitas.

Professor Turski was a distinguished theoretical physicist, professor at the Center for Theoretical Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the author of over one hundred scientific publications. He was also well known for his science communication work, including numerous radio and television programs, articles, and public commentary. He was a full member of the Warsaw Scientific Society.

He conceived and brought to life the Science Picnic and was the driving force behind the creation of the Copernicus Science Centre, where he served as Chair of the Programme Council from its inception. He also lectured as a visiting professor at universities in the United States, Canada, Germany, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Professor Turski was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Hugo Steinhaus Award of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Gold Medal of the European Physical Society, distinctions from the Foundation for Polish Science and Polish Radio, as well as the Warsaw City Award, and the UN Global 520 “Science – Architect of Development” Award. He was also decorated with the Commander’s Cross with Star of the Order of Polonia Restituta.

At Collegium Civitas, he conducted interdisciplinary lectures linking science, society, and politics. His energy, intellect, and passion for sharing knowledge left a lasting impression on our academic community.

We bid farewell to an extraordinary scholar, educator, and communicator of science, whose legacy will continue to inspire.
