The US Embassy and IATEFL POLAND invite you to a webinar on academic writing in English “Using Rubrics and Peer Reviews to Improve Academic Writing” on April 26, at 20:30.
The speaker will be Lynn Hoke, currently an English Language Fellow at the University of Rzeszów, Institute of English Studies, which is being sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Consulate in Krakow (2022-2023).
Students find academic writing challenging, as they have become accustomed to the informality of social media and text messaging as their main mode of writing. Incorporating the use of rubrics for assignments and peer reviews as part of the writing process will help them focus on the more formal writing required in academia. In this webinar we will discuss how teachers can create detailed rubrics to help students follow the instructions and fulfill the requirements of an assignment. We will use the second half of the webinar to discuss how peer reviews may be used in tandem with rubrics as a means of not only helping students internalize essay format, content, and requirements, but use of rubrics and peer reviews will help students establish agency over their own metacognition and assignment choices.
