We are deeply saddened by the passing of Marian Turski, an unwavering advocate for tolerance and historical truth, a mentor and a cherished friend of Collegium Civitas. Marian Turski was a Holocaust survivor who dedicated his life to educating others about the atrocities of the past to prevent their recurrence.

Mr. Turski was instrumental in fostering Polish-Jewish dialogue and was a co-founder of the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews. His commitment to preserving the memory of the Holocaust and promoting human rights resonated deeply with our university’s mission. He frequently engaged with our students, generously sharing his experiences and insights, and inspiring future generations to uphold the values of empathy and justice.

In his poignant address during the 75th anniversary of Auschwitz’s liberation, Mr. Turski reminded the world: “Auschwitz did not fall from the sky.” He urged us all to be vigilant against hatred and indifference.

As we mourn the loss of Marian Turski, we also celebrate his enduring legacy. His teachings will continue to guide us in our pursuit of knowledge, compassion, and integrity.
