Debating Europe: Internal and External Dynamics of European Integration (DEBUE) is a multidisciplinary project funded by the European Union’s Jean Monnet scheme which aims to foster learning and informed debate on the internal and external challenges shaping European integration and driving the EU’s place in the world. DEBUE meets the need for knowledge and critical analysis of EU issues and integration at a time when fake news and misrepresentation are widespread, and democracy and the rule of law are at risk. The Head of the DEBUE project is Dr Kerry Longhurst. Recently our students participated in the recording and preparation of a new podcast created as part of the DEBUE project in Collegium Civitas.

Shaping Europe: Security, Resilience and EU Enlargement

This episode of the Jean Monnet DEBUE podcast examines the EU’s policies on enlargement, its role in maintaining international peace and security and in promoting institutional reforms among aspiring member states. The discussion focuses on the EU’s transition from an economic alliance to an independent regional security provider. Panelists: Arslan Suleymanov, Milana Bagdasarian, Kamil Nowak, Diana Prushynska, and Dr Kerry Longhurst also assess the successes and failures of the Eastern Partnership and the conditions for EU membership for candidate states, emphasizing the need for adherence to specific values and the implementation of reforms in areas such as gender equality and institutional transparency.

We invite you to listen to previous episodes of DEBUE podcasts.

The podcasts were produced at Collegium Civitas as part of the DEBUE project: “Debating Europe: Internal and External Dynamics of European Integration.” The project is co-funded by the European Union under the Jean Monnet Programme.
