On September 13, Collegium Civitas, in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw, hosted a roundtable with Prof. Marjorie Castle.

Professor Castle teaches at the Department of Political Science at the University of Utah. She earned her graduate degrees at Yale and Stanford and has previously taught at Collegium Civitas, Oberlin, and Notre Dame. She is the author of two books on Polish politics: Democracy in Poland and Triggering Communism’s Collapse: Perceptions and Power in Poland’s Transition. She is co-editor of Politics in Europe, now coming out in its eighth edition. Her current research interests include the role of elites in democratic decline and resurgence, and her most recent publication is “Democratic Consolidation in Poland and its Implications,” forthcoming in the Routledge Handbook of Polish Politics.

The meeting was attended by faculty members and presented a valuable occasion to exchange views and new research ideas focused on geopolitical and cultural challenges affecting democracies in Europe and the USA.
