This year’s 16th edition of the ESA Conference took place from August 27–30 under the theme ‘Tension, Trust, and Transformation.’ It was unique in that the European Sociological Association (ESA) is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Additionally, for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic, the organizers returned to an in-person format for the congress. This time, sociologists from European (and beyond) research institutions gathered in Porto, Portugal.

We proudly announce that five researchers from the Edmund Wnuk-Lipiński Institute of Sociology at Collegium Civitas participated in this prestigious academic event. Dr hab. Paweł Matuszewski, prof. CC, presented a paper titled Structural and Cognitive Factors Shaping the Diffusion of Political Conspiracy Theories. Dr Marek Troszyński, on the other hand, presented on Beyond Quality and Quantity: Integrated Strategies to Analyze Media Content during the joint sessions of RN20 – Qualitative Methods and RN21 – Quantitative Methods groups. Both also took part in the meeting of The Sociology of Communications and Media Research Network, where a new board for the group was elected, and it was decided to organize the next mid-term conference in Ljubljana.

Dr hab. Joanna Mizielińska, prof. CC and Dr Agata Stasińska jointly presented the paper Unveiling Queer Aging Realities: Preliminary Findings from “Imagining Queer Aging Futures”, showcasing the initial findings of the IQAF research project. This project focuses on the aging experiences of LGBTQ individuals in Poland, Estonia, and Sweden. Both researchers have been working on this project at Collegium Civitas in collaboration with partner universities: Södertörn University (Sweden) and the University of Tartu (Estonia) since January 2023. Dr Katarzyna Iwińska presented the topic Public Perception on Hydrogen: A Polish Case Study on Acceptance and Awareness in Energy Transition during the RN12 session – Hydrogen and Wind Power: Public Sentiment and Socio-Technological Perspectives. She also moderated two sessions related to energy transition (RN12 – Energy Transition, Resistance, and Acceptance) and sustainable development (RN12 – Theoretical Perspectives on Social Conflicts and Sustainability Transformations).

We sincerely congratulate them and wish them continued success!
