Katarzyna Anna Przybyła, lecturer at Collegium Civitas, is a co-editor (alongside Maureen P. Flaherty from the University of Manitoba in Canada) of the latest issue of the international journal “Peace Review,” published by Taylor and Francis. Issue 36/1 (2024) is entirely dedicated to the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the ongoing war. Katarzyna A. Przybyła is also the author of two articles included in it.

In the introductory article to the issue, Katarzyna A. Przybyła and Maureen P. Flaherty discuss the conflict, acknowledging that they had both hoped the editorial work on the issue would coincide with the end of the conflict. Unfortunately, this did not happen, and the situation both in the region and globally has become even more challenging. The authors also present the articles they have selected for this special issue, emphasizing that these contributions come from various locations and offer a variety of perspectives, often diverging from the mainstream media narrative, thus allowing for a deeper understanding of the situation.

Katarzyna A. Przybyła is also the author of the article titled “State Silencing as a Tool to Suppress Russians’ Civil Resistance to the War with Ukraine.” In this piece, she analyzes how Russian methods of silencing society have contributed to the absence of mass protests against human rights violations in Ukraine. Our lecturer examines the impact of the state’s silencing machinery on Russians’ reluctance and inability to resist, as well as its consequences for Russian civil society and the prospects of reconciliation between Russians and Ukrainians.
