Collegium Civitas hosts the PIASA 9th World Congress

From June 7 to 9, 2024, Collegium Civitas hosts the PIASA 9th World Congress on Polish Studies, organized by the Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences (PIASA) in New York and our university. The event, under the honorary patronage of Minister of Science Dariusz Wieczorek, brings together over 200 eminent scholars from around the globe to explore the theme “Poland in the World.”

Held at the iconic Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw, the Congress is a pivotal forum for discussing various humanities, social sciences, and business/economics topics. This year’s Congress also marks several significant anniversaries:

  • The 35th anniversary of Poland’s political transformation,
  • The 25th anniversary of Poland’s accession to NATO,
  • The 20th anniversary of Poland joining the European Union.

The conference will feature plenary sessions, panel discussions, and specialized sessions covering issues from transatlantic relations to the role of Poland in global geopolitics.

Highlights include:

  • opening lecture by Minister Władysław T. Bartoszewski, Secretary of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, discussing Poland’s evolving role on the international stage,
  • over 50 diverse panels addressing topics such as literature, art, history, political studies, international relations,
  • presentation of PIASA Awards at the ceremony held at the Museum of Polish History with the keynote address by Dr. Janusz Onyszkiewicz, one of the architects of Poland’s accession to NATO.

Collegium Civitas proudly presents a notable representation of lecturers among the Congress panelists. They will delve into various thought-provoking topics, enriching the discourse and contributing to the scholarly exchange at the Congress. Collegium Civitas lecturers and PIASA panelists include Prof. Paweł Dobrowolski, Prof. Marek Cichocki, Dr. Agnieszka Nitza-Makowska, Dr. Jens Boysen, Dr. Katarzyna Maniszewska, Dr. Paulina Piasecka, Dr. Monika Nowicka, Dr. Łukasz Tolak, Dr. Muhammad Kamran, and Mrs. Katarzyna Skiert-Andrzejuk.  

Collegium Civitas, known for its academic traditions in diplomacy, international relations, sociology, media, and security studies, provides the perfect backdrop for these enriching discussions. The Congress enhances scholarly dialogue, fosters international collaborations, and strengthens the ties between academic communities across borders.
