The admission for the academic year 2022/2023 to the master’s degree programme in Strategic Peace and Conflict Studies (SPACS) in partnership with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is open.

The first semester of SPACS programme is planned to be held in a combined mode of teaching: with part of the classes delivered online and part of the classes delivered on-site in Warsaw.  However, if the situation (e.g. related to the COVID-19 pandemic or other unforeseen circumstances) would require modification of the teaching mode as the participants would not be able to participate in the on-site classes for justified reasons, the university is fully prepared to implement a hybrid solutions as well as education conducted in a fully online mode.

Strategic Peace and Conflict Studies (SPACS) is an innovative and interdisciplinary joint programme of Collegium Civitas and  UNITAR. The programme is based on the wealth experience and know-how of both institutions. SPACS is the first programme of this kind in Poland, and one of the very few in Europe. In the challenging times the world is facing we need a new generation of peacebuilders!

The programme is aimed at empowering students with the knowledge and skills to:

  • develop a critical understanding of the root causes of violence and international conflicts and the foundations for building long lasting peace;
  • develop practical skills necessary for the facilitation of conflict transformation and positive social change processes;
  • develop and deploy peacebuilding strategies at the policy level, the middle-level and the grassroots level.

SPACS combines the knowledge and skills from such fields as: international relations, sociology, psychology, international law, economy, human rights, security studies, and others to generate a comprehensive body of knowledge, and to arrive with 21st century solutions to 21st century problems and beyond.

What distinguishes SPACS from other programmes is a holistic and practical approach which enables students to develop new ways of thinking and to acquire new skills to operate in a world of uncertainty. After the completion of the program, students will be able to critically analyze current events and policy decisions, and will develop skills needed to contribute to  much needed change management processes – both at the community and at the high policy level.

The main goal is to transform students into well-educated and skilled peacebuilders who will be able to assess and lead positive social changes at both the grassroots level and the high-policy level. Therefore, there will be a strong emphasis on personal and professional development of students in the program, which will allow them to respond holistically to a range of challenges faced in the field.
