In November 2024, Dr. Monika Nowicka represented Collegium Civitas at the Global Engagement Week of Applied Social Sciences hosted by VIVES University of Applied Sciences in Kortrijk, Belgium. The event brought together scholars from across Europe and Africa, fostering international academic exchange and collaboration.
As part of the program, Dr. Nowicka delivered a workshop titled “Receiving Refugees with Disabilities: The Experience of Warsaw and Bucharest”, sharing insights from her latest research on supporting Ukrainian war refugees with disabilities. Her presentation provided a comparative perspective on the challenges faced by refugees with disabilities and the policies implemented in Poland and Romania to aid their integration.
This was Dr. Nowicka’s second participation in an organized Erasmus initiative. Earlier in 2024, she, along with five students from the BA Sociology Programme, took part in the “Human Rights & Social Professionals” Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) at the UCLL Faculty of Social Work in Leuven, Belgium. This experience allowed students and faculty members to engage with international best practices in human rights education and social work.
Both events provided invaluable opportunities to explore innovative, practice-oriented teaching methods in social sciences and to incorporate real-world research findings into academic instruction. Dr. Nowicka’s participation underscores Collegium Civitas’ commitment to international collaboration, interdisciplinary learning, and the continuous enhancement of educational approaches through global academic engagement.
