Collegium Civitas in partnership with SRAS (USA) invites you to participate in the on-line summer school course “The Future in Science Fiction” held between 28 June – 06 August 2021. In this course we will take a look at science-fiction from the perspectives of sociology, security, political science and ethics. Alongside a series of discussions and workshops, we will be working on essays for publication in a course anthology. Enrollment deadline is May 25. The number of places is limited.

It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of Dr Krzysztof Liedel, our dear friend and longtime lecturer at Collegium Civitas, the Director of the Terrorism Research Center at Collegium Civitas, renowned expert in security issues, awarded with the Golden Cross of Merit for his outstanding services to the state and society. The paper by Collegium Civitas researchers Prof. Izabela Wagner and Prof. Mariusz Finkelsztein has just been published by the Journal of Contemporary Ethnography. The article “Strategic Boredom: The Experience and Dynamics of Boredom in Refugee Camp. A Mediterranean Case” examines the boredom of asylum seekers living in a refugee camp in southern Europe.

Dr Agnieszka Nitza-Makowska, Collegium Civitas lecturer, supervisor of International Relations and Asian Studies will present the results of her research at the conference devoted to climate change, hosted by the German Institute for Japanese Studies, Tokyo. We invite you to participate in the conference held online between April 19 and 22.

On May 12 the online seminar “Economy after Covid-19” will be held with participation of leading experts from two renowned universities: Suleyman Demirel University from Kazakhstan and Collegium Civitas from Poland. During the seminar Prof. Yessengali Oskenbayev and Prof. David Kalisz will present the topic from the European, Central Asian as well as global perspective.

On April 3 the third online session in the series “Perspectives on Central and Eastern Europe” was held. The project is organized by Collegium Civitas and SRAS (USA) and promotes our study abroad and summer school courses. The seminar was devoted to the state of democracy in Central & Eastern Europe. Can we look for the reasons of current backsliding of democracies in the history of the 20th century? What are the main challenges?

Security and Society Summer School is run by Collegium Civitas in cooperation with SRAS (USA). The 2021 edition will be held online between June 7 and July 16. The summer school combines the course "Central Europe & Security Issues" with a research internship with the Terrorism Research Center. The application deadline is June 1.
